If you ask improvisers why they go on stage, the answers are often very similar: We love the playfulness, the adrenaline, the joy of failing. Throughout the years our technique has improved, we seem to really understand our craft. In short: It's just so much fun to get up there and play! But is that alone enough? The joy of improvising aside, shouldn't we have something to say? And if so, how can we find a way to let the audience know how we see the world without ranting, moralizing and pointing fingers?
Nadine Antler will focus on the following question: What inspires me to go on stage? Comedian Karl Valentin once said: „Art is beautiful, but it takes a lot of work“. Voicing an opinion means putting in our best effort. With this in mind, we will start asking: What is my message? How is it reflected in the concepts I create? In this workshop the participants will get to the bottom of their own inspiration in order to add depth to their artistic work. Non-improv-typical research included.

Nadine Antler is the Artistic Director of Der Kaktus in Würzburg/Germany, an improvisation ensemble which she co-founded in 1998. She is teaching improv for actors, improvisers, teachers, businesses and many more. From 2002 until 2013 Nadine was organizing the Würzburger Improtheaterfestival (this very festival!) for which she was awarded with the Prize for young culture from the City of Würzburg in 2008. Nadine has performed and taught at festivals in North America, South America, Australia and Africa and performs regularily in various improv festivals throughout Europe. In September she will break new grounds and join the ensemble Steife Brise in Hamburg/Germany.
