Workshops 2017

At this year's festival we are offering four 18-hour-workshops from Thursday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. We are excited about an intense experience that will allow this year's participants to go deeper into each workshop subject than ever before at the festival. We are also launching a new system to help determine which workshop is the right one for you: The Workshop Factors. We hope you like what we are offering!

The application process
You will have two weeks (May 3rd to May 17th) to fill out the application form for the workshops. Afterwards all applications will go into our lottery and we will draw names to give away the spots. That way everybody has a fair chance. Please note that there will be a different application process for the workshop „Slow: Stage 2“ with Marko Mayerl and Matthieu Loos. You will learn all about it when filling out the application form.

Experience Level

The level system helps us building homogeneous workshop groups to ensure that everybody gets the most out of their workshop experience.

I rehearse with an ensemble on a regular basis, and have experience performing improvisation on the stage.

I perform regularly on stage and I rehearse on a regular basis with a fixed ensemble. I have been involved in introducing performance formats to the place where I primarily improvise, either by developing these or by introducing these from elsewhere. I’ve introduced others into improvisation, either through beginner training or mentoring newer players in an ensemble.

I perform regularly on stage and I rehearse on a regular basis with a fixed ensemble. I have developed formats and presented these formats in cities outside of the one I’m based in. I have a professional approach to my improvisational work. I’ve developed others in improvisation, by offering advanced training on multiple occasions, or by coaching ensembles.

How to get into a workshop

Here you can find a little overview over the application process for the workshops. Below you'll find our FAQs.

May 3rd to May 17th

Apply for a workshop spot.

Lottery & Confirmation

After having drawn the names from the lottery we will send you an email to let you know if you have gotten a spot.

Festival Fee Transfer & Final Confirmation

If you have been offered a workshop spot, please transfer the festival fee to our bank account. Afterwards you will receive a final confirmation.

Will I receive a confirmation after I have registered for a workshop?

Yes, you will. If you haven't received a conformation via email, please notify us so we can make sure that your application has reached us.

My name didn't get drawn in the lottery, so I didn't get a workshop spot. Is there a waiting list?

Yes, there is one. The waiting list order is also determined by the lottery system. As soon as someone gives up their spot, we will give the spot to the next person on the waiting list.

I have already transferred the festival fee but haven't received a final confirmation yet. Have I lost my spot?

No, you haven’t. The banks don't all work at the same speed and we process the cash receipts in one go. That's why it can take a couple of days before you get the final confirmation. If we discover that we haven't received your festival fee, we will check with you before we give your spot to someone else.

What do I do if I'd like to stay longer/shorter at the festival?

Send an email to and we will contact the Youth Hostel.

What happens if it turns out I can't use my workshop spot?

If you cancel your spot before August 31st 2017, you will get back the complete festival fee minus 30 € service fee. After this date we first have to find someone from the waiting list to fill your spot before we can transfer the money back. If we have found someone, you will receive back the entire festival fee minus the service fee. If we don't find one, we unfortunately cannot pay you back. On a side note: Since we usually have a long waiting list, chances are good that we can find somebody. Of course, we can't promise that for sure.

Can I come to the festival even if I don’t have a workshop spot?

Of course! All guests are welcome! There is lots do in Würzburg even without a workshop. You can share meals with the participants, have a look around Würzburg, watch the shows and party with us!

What happens if I arrive late and miss the Check-In?

No problem! We will leave your name and your room number at the reception of the Youth Hostel.

What does the catering at the festival include?

In the regular festival package the following is included:

  • Thursday: Snacks and Dinner
  • Friday: Lunch and Dinner
  • Saturday: Lunch and Dinner
  • Sunday: Snacks

For those of you, who stay at the Youth Hostel, breakfast is included as well.

If you arrive early you can check the boxes in the application form for an additional dinner on Thursday. It will cost an extra 6,50 €.

Is it possible to help out with the festival?

Yes! We are very happy for your support! Just send an email and we will get back to you.
