Rama Nicholas will come back to Würzburg!

We invite all of you to come back to Würzburg for some workshop fun in November! The wonderful Rama Nicholas from Melbourne/Australia will return and bring her workshop „Close to you...“ about love, romance and intimacy on stage. The workshop is suited for everyone who rehearses with an ensemble on a regular basis, has some experience performing improvisation on the stage, and is happy to explore! Click here to register or read on for more info.

About the workshop:

Romantic relationships, love, sex and intimacy are universal themes. We see them in film, theatre and music all the time. In improv, however, it seems to be different. We rarely see truly romantic love scenes and we almost never hear honest conversations about sex. The idea of entering such personal territory easily freaks us out. It's vulnerability at its purest... And yet, opening up to these themes can make our scene work much richer.

How do we electrify the audience with our sexual energy without being explicit? How do we touch their hearts as Shakespeare did in Romeo and Juliet? In this workshop, Rama Nicholas creates a relaxed and safe environment where you can get to the bottom of these questions, explore your fears around intimacy on stage, build trust and break down barriers. Performing love scenes is a skill like any other and it can be learned. It just takes trust, bravery, honesty, and a willingness to take risks you might have never taken before.

The workshop language is English.

Finding Your Identity

The level system helps us building homogeneous workshop groups to ensure that everybody gets the most out of their workshop experience.

Level 1

I rehearse/take workshops on a regular basis, and have experience performing improvisation on the stage.

Level 2

I rehearse on a regular basis with a fixed ensemble, and I perform regularly on stage in various different performance formats.

Level 3

I perform regularly on stage and I rehearse on a regular basis with a fixed ensemble. I have been involved in introducing performance formats to the place where I primarily improvise. I’ve introduced others into improvisation, either through beginner training or mentoring newer players in an ensemble.

Level 4

I perform regularly on stage, rehearse on a regular basis with a fixed ensemble and I have a professional approach to my improvisational work. I have been involved in introducing performance formats to the place where I primarily improvise. I have or am planning to take this work to other locations. I’ve developed others in improvisation, by offering more advanced training on multiple occasions, or by coaching ensembles.

Will I receive a confirmation after I have registered for a workshop?

You will be receiving an email with all the info you applied with but it will only get to you in a couple of days. Please be patient – we'll make sure the info gets to you. If you haven't heard from us in two weeks, please drop us a quick note.

My name didn't get drawn in the lottery, so I didn't get a workshop spot. Is there a waiting list?

Yes, there is one. The waiting list order is also determined by the lottery system. As soon as someone gives up their spot, we will give the spot to the next person on the waiting list.

I have already transferred the festival fee but haven't received a final confirmation yet. Have I lost my spot?

No, you haven’t. The banks don't all work at the same speed and we process the cash receipts in one go. That's why it can take a couple of days before you get the final confirmation. If we discover that we haven't received your festival fee, we will check with you before we give your spot to someone else.

What do I do if I'd like to stay longer/shorter at the festival?

Send an email to info@improtheaterfestival.de and we will contact the Youth Hostel.

What happens if it turns out I can't use my workshop spot?

If you cancel your spot before August 31st 2018, you will get back the complete festival fee minus 30 € service fee. After this date we first have to find someone from the waiting list to fill your spot before we can transfer the money back. If we have found someone, you will receive back the entire festival fee minus the service fee. If we don't find one, we unfortunately cannot pay you back. On a side note: Since we usually have a long waiting list, chances are good that we can find somebody. Of course, we can't promise that for sure.

Can I come to the festival even if I don’t have a workshop spot?

Of course! All guests are welcome! There is lots do in Würzburg even without a workshop. You can share meals with the participants, have a look around Würzburg, watch the shows and party with us!

What happens if I arrive late and miss the Check-In?

No problem! We will leave your name and your room number at the reception of the Youth Hostel.

Is it possible to help out with the festival?

Yes! We are very happy for your support! Just send an email and we will get back to you.
